Healthy Salt intake; use unprocessed sea salt. Celtic, French or New Zealand are good sources. Due to pollutions around much of the world, sea salts can contain mercury and other toxic heavy metals, yet New Zealands seas are considered some of the safest. Always salt your food after tasting it to avoid adding too much salt. If you have a good diet of primarily raw organic produce and quality free-range animal meats, using a quality sea salt to taste will add nutrition for your bodily needs. IMPORTANT NOTE: There IS a substantial difference between refined (typical refined white table salt sold at grocery store and unrefined sea salt). Refined table contains anti-caking agents - some which are aluminum based - aluminum is linked with heavy metal toxicity and possibly Alzheimers disease. Other additives such as dextrose (a sugar) are used in iodized salt (salt w/iodine) to keep the salt from turning purple. Sodium silicoaluminate, added to processed table salt is thought to be associated w/kidney problems and mineral mal-absorption. Sodium acetate, also added to processed table salt may cause elevated blood pressure, kidney disturbances and water retention.
