Healthy habits such as a good diet, regular exercise, and proper amounts of sleep can slow aging at the cellular level and buffer the negative effects of stress, according to a new study. It has to do with the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes, called telomeres; over time, telomeres become shorter, causing the cells to age and die more quickly. Stress can cause the telomeres to shorten faster, but a healthy lifestyle can blunt the effects of stress of telomere length. It may seem a bit complex, but the bottom line is this – healthy habits can help your body deal with stress, so make sure you’re eating right, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep!
