Healthy snacking tip: hard-boiled egg whites! The whites are fat-free, only 17 calories, and packed with pure, high-quality protein – great for keeping full and staying lean. Boil a bunch and store them in the fridge as a grab-and-go snack throughout the week. How to cook: You can boil eggs in a pot on the stove or steam in a rice cooker. -On the stove: Place the eggs in a pot, cover completely with water leaving a few inches from the edge so it doesn’t boil over. Bring to a boil, turn down to medium heat and cook for 10 minutes. Place eggs in a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. -Rice cooker: Using a rice cooker is a convenient way to cook eggs without a stove. Place eggs in the steam basket on top, 2 cups water below, press “cook,” wait 21 minutes, and transfer to an ice bath. What about the yolk? While there are a lot of valuable nutrients (and half the protein) in the yolk, there is also fat and cholesterol, so you might want to skip the yolk most of the time (but eating it once and a while is okay if cholesterol is not a problem for you) Tips: sprinkle with black pepper, add to sandwiches & salads, pair with a healthy fat such as hummus, nut butter, or avocado Enjoy! #healthysnack #nutrition #fitfood
