Hear Christ Jesus irrefutable assurance of heavenly provision unto the elect that they may not fret nor be anxious in earthly cares, Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Matt. 6:26) O beloved Christian: It is God who arrays even the lilies in their clothing, will He not clothe you too? It is God who feeds the birds, will He not feed you too? Now, this is not a view to laziness in earthly labors, but rather a reproof in rightly considering that it is God who supplies all our sustenance and upholds us. Let every present sorrow and joy, want and supply, loss and gain, which attends your lot in this earthly life be seen in the light of divine providence. God sovereignly and wisely cares for His beloved people, such that His denials are blessed provisions. It is God who hardens hearts in His divine judgment and breaks hard hearts in His chastening grace dear yokefellow, and so where His granting the stiffnecked rebel his/her carnal wants only serves to impoverish their Christless estate in increasing ruin, declining earthly comforts are instruments of His mercy unto you who have believed His gospel from the heart. Oh, that in the midst of your cares, your heart would be tuned to sing, What comforts accompany His providence, what rest present troubles can bring! :-)
