Hear ye(:D) ..if you will.At LEAST $100 million dollars in public tax dollars( money from those of us that work) has been lost due to fraud,waste, mismanagement and abuse by charter school overseers.To understand the magnitude, you must understand the history and original intent of Charters.They were initially created to explore new methods and models of teaching.To allow this to happen,charters were exempted from following many of the regulations that govern traditional public schools.This was done to secure ideas and innovations that could possibly be used to improve public schools.Having the ability to take calculated risks with small populations of willing teachers,parents and students was the original intent and design .With few people and schools involved, the risk to participants and the public were relatively low. The first charter( with this intent) opened in Minnesota in 1991. Today, there are an estimated 6,400 charters( for profit ) enrolling over 2.5 million students.With no proven improvements.I am speaking of the ones being pushed on Urban areas by our very own legislators.In essence, its the same failure as traditional schools, but now you are forced to enroll your children to grease the palms of slickters.Criminal i tell ya.
