True story: Yesterday, in my workshop, I heard the frantic - TopicsExpress

True story: Yesterday, in my workshop, I heard the frantic flappings of a butterfly at the window. She was caught in one of the cobwebs that had already entangled one of her friends, so to save her suffering the same fate I decided to do my good deed for the day. I climbed and clutched her folded wings and gently eased her out. Then, as carefully as I could, I teased the remnants of the matted web from around her feet with my fingers. She rested in my palm as I took her outside and I hoped she hadn’t suffered too much trauma to spread her wings and fly away. It took a few seconds for her to gain her composure. I made a wish and gently whisked her into the air. Her flight was faltering at first, going around in circles, perilously close to crash-landing, then with renewed strength she gained height and fluttered off. It was strange, but I actually felt good about this, like I had done my good deed for the day. I like to think she was grateful, even though I had inadvertently pulled one of her legs off in the process. I like to think it was a small price to pay for freedom.
