Heard almost nothing but positive things about this but I have to - TopicsExpress

Heard almost nothing but positive things about this but I have to admit that Im still wary. As Ive mentioned here before, Im just far too invested in this as I grew up with these books and love them still; I really dont know whether Ill be able to disassociate myself enough to be fair to the film. Glad to hear they were explicitly drawing on the early Peggy Fortnum illustrations but it doesnt look all that much like it to me and Im irritated by the idea of Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown as she doesnt fit my conception of that character at all, but now Im just getting irascible. I do appreciate the confluence of era anachronisms that apparently abound in the film--that seems a good approach and the one Bond himself has used by default I think in the most recent books--but its wrong to think of this material as timeless as its very specifically related to a moment in time in terms of its values, attitudes, etc. And I hate the idea of the overblown plot though I get why they thought it was needed (once again an appeal to todays audience--if it was timeless enough it wouldnt need to worry about that). Anyway, well see.
