Heard an arguement about daylight savings times origin. So I looked up what seemed to be an ok history. Side point, ben franklin had an idea for it back in 1785 to save on candle wax. Nobody listened to him though. A few others before and after him for varying reasons tossed the idea around as well. It was originally an ancient practice that went in and out of style. In 1905 this guy proposed it but farmers fought him tooth and nail until 1915 when they passed it, but not for his reasons. The germans started it in ww1 to help save fuel by lowering artificial light needs by extending daylight hours. The brits joined in soon after as they were at war and didnt want the germans showing them up, and america and others soon followed. to end a long story before it gets longer, we reinstated it for ww2 as war time and at the end kept it by changing its name to peace time.
