Hearing From God Yourself 6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11 Warning when you begin to pray and practice this and hold out till the end and see the results of your faith, you will become addicted to praying and hearing from God. Your life will change forever. We often limit prayer to the ritual we see in church or even common standards that media portrays. We come to God say what we have to say, we may wait a bit and do some worship. Then if we feel good, think that we did all we need to or have too, or just are distracted with other things we need to get done we get up not giving room for God to speak back to us directly. Now God speaks in many different ways, there is no one fixed way. Yet there is one thing that the scriptures testify and those who practice this have seen the same results. Seeking God until you find Him; this is a type of prayer many do not practice and or give up due to lack of faith, yielding to the doubts of the enemy (unrepentant sin makes these doubts stronger). But God rewards those who diligently seek Him with their whole heart. In fact many are still bound in sin, doubts, and anxiety, because they have not done this. “12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity…” Jeremiah 29 When we go down in prayer, after we repent and have a pure heart before Him we should not only be speaking to the LORD, praying in the Spirit, putting forth our petitions for all the saints and worship but also we should be WAITING on God to HEAR from Him and then do what He says. This is how you truly seek Him. We often pray and do not actually seek God, but get up and move on with our life (still continuing in sin and doubt). Some times we go down wanting something or seeking for strength and get up in the same state. Other times we repent but our heart is not changed so we may move forward for a few days or weeks but still fall back into the same pit. We must pray and seek Him till He comes and delivers then we must continue in OBEDIENCE. This is done by waiting in prayer, when we do this, He will also renew our strength. “31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. “ Isaiah 40 We have this odd idea that when we pray, we always have to have something to say; sometimes we are repeating the same things over and over and over and over. Nothing wrong with fervent repetition, but vain repetition is not necessary; be silent and wait if you feel led or have nothing to say. Look what the scriptures testify and what Jesus Himself said: “7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. “ Matthew 6 1Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. 2Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. Ecclesiastes 5 We do not have to come to the LORD with much to say, in fact our much speaking should only be coming from the Spirit praying through us, in groaning or tongues (Romans 8:26, 1 Corinthians 14:14-15), since we don’t even know how or what to pray for. Ecclesiastes 5 said some profound things. The House of the Lord is now us (we are the temple He dewlls in), He is present with us and in us, so when we pray we should be looking to spend more time listening. You can only do this if you actually take the time to do so (waiting). Also often times in waiting God will put things in your spirit to pray about, focus on or even instructions for later. Being silent with your mouth does not mean just sit there (even though I have done this and He still shows up). We should be focusing on Him and listening. One of the major problems people have in seeking God and praying through till they encounter Him is the fact that they have little faith. Faith is not about how much you have but how long you have it. Little faith gives up easy, great faith endures. So if you sit down to wait on God and get up and leave because you feel He is not coming, this is little faith. Faith is confidence in God’s Word in spite of what you feel, hear, see or perceive. In fact the one who lacks confidence in God’s Word is listening to the enemy speak into there spirit (this is the basics of every aspect of our Christian walk; praying like this is great exercise). The enemy is the father of lies, so if God said seek me with your whole heart and you will find me, if Jesus said seek and you will find, be importunate and you will receive (Luke 11:1-13) any voice that speaks otherwise is a lie and must be pulled down and ignored. Be determined have your mind set that your not moving till you hear from God and know. If there is a sin or a weight weighing you down, confess until you are at peace with Him then wait. If you do not know or you are not sure, you have not encountered Him yet. Do not listen to the voices that say to: get up, he’s not coming, this is a waste, I’m hungry… they are all lies or distractions. Even if you have to get up, make sure you go back (Matthew 26:36-46, Luke 22:40-46). I have many experiences of listening to these lying and distracting voices for hours and God in the end shows up and proved them all to be lies. In your first time (or dry times) doing this, normally its a desperation/determination to hear from Him or receive an answer from Him that leads you to the level of faith and patience needed, many give up because they do not have a strong enough desire or determination. When you wait sometimes it may be a 30 minutes, an hour 2, 3, or even a 4 hour wait. Sometimes He may manifest multiple times with in that span of hours (this happened with me with the 4 hours, I just kept waiting, He kept coming lol). It all depends on your level of faith; if you are willing to wait to HEAR from Him. Patience, faith and endurance are what are exercised here. Many people pray and as soon as they feel comfortable or a little quickening here and there they are happy and even assume positive answers. Do not just settle for that. Seek God till YOU KNOW. “29Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23 (read this whole context) You know when He comes; it’s not just a quickening or a feel good with yourself. It is possible to pray and run off with your own desires. We must wait to hear from God. Sometimes He says “no” and it is amazing (at least for me it was). Do not just assume your feelings or quickening is God speaking to you and the answer is “Yes”, people run with these imaginations and say it’s God when it goes against His will and even times you can see it’s against the testimony of the scriptures. Yes it does feel nice you may be quickened but He comes with power, peace, calm yet authority. If you are not sure, wait till you know. Be silent, do not speak ahead of Him and deceive yourself, wait on Him. The most important thing is what you hear. If He speaks He only speaks truth, He will never go against anything He has already said (especially what He has said in the scriptures). If you are not sure ASK Him, do not run to man or lean on your own understanding or assume. Ask Him for wisdom and wait on Him to give wisdom or confirm. He is also very consistent in how He will speak to you. Learn to know His voice and trust Him. When one prays and waits on God to answer and speak and He speaks and you know, believe Him, even if the situation does not look like what He has said, believe Him. Doubts will definitely come especially right after you get up from prayer. But He comforts and confirms His Word in your spirit even after the experience, peace joy and rest will fill you, He comforts us. Faith will come, hold onto it and mix it with what you heard and burry it in you. “17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Hebrews 4 7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15 Pray, wait and believe He will show up in spite of the lies the enemy speaks into your mind. God never fails, the only time He does not show up is when we give up and do not wait long enough for Him. When you hear Him believe and mix what you hear with faith. If you are not sure, do not insult Him with doubt, instead seek Him further ask for wisdom and assurance in what you heard believing He will answer and assure you and when He does BELIEVE. He will give wisdom freely. Do not get up in doubt. Also do not run with the first thing that pops in your head when you pray. Wait on Him and pray till you encounter Him and know. Lastly do not idolized any form of prayer, sometimes He may come and comfort you but give you the answer later, even days later. Also this is not the ONLY way to pray. You can literally ask a question in your heart and He will answer (again how and when He chooses). This way of praying (seeking Him in prayer) is great because it teaches discipline, exercises faith, trust and even exposes the enemy and his lies. And on top of all of that the reward in the end: Hearing and experiencing the LORD directly. May God continue to bless and keep you in His presence.
