Heart-wrenching story I heard about yesterday afternoon that hits my farm girl heart so hard! This could have been my family...as you read this, please do not judge, as it was a horrible, unimaginable ACCIDENT. I spent countless hours in a tractor and combine as a child riding in the jump-seat, as this young girl was, and my kids have done the same with their grandpa and uncle as being part of the farming is a way of life! Harvest is so exciting for kids and grand kids and those of us farm kids can recall how many times the combine/tractor hits a bump and your head hits the glass windshield...it NEVER crossed my mind that this could result. ACCIDENTS can lead to awareness, however, and there is a separate passenger jump-seat in the roomy cab of a combine and my dads equipment does have a seat belt, which will ALWAYS now be worn, no exceptions. I encourage you, if you are a farmer or know a farmer, please implement these safety measures right away and if you have no seat belt, rig something up to protect riders from getting close to the windshield and dont let them sit or stand against the windshield to watch the crops from that (very fun) birds-eye view. Secondly and very importantly, PLEASE pray for this family, especially the father as he attempts to put one foot in front of the other to face each day. Pray for all of the lives impacted by this terrible accident...the emergency responders, the equipment company that had to dismantle the equipment that fateful day, and all of the community as they surround this family with love!! Hug your loved ones extra tight today...
