Hebe andersonii ´Variegata´ is a small, evergreen shrub with large creamy white and grey variegated leaves and purple-violet flowers which blooming in summer into early winter. Hebe performs best in cool-summer, mild-winter climates. You can use the plant in mixed borders, rock gardens, or also in containers with other plants blooming in this season (Chrysanthemum, Astra, Calluna, Erica, Campanula etc). Hebe is easy to grow, the plant is happy in ordinary soil and will succeed in both acid and alkaline conditions. This species doesn´t like cold winds, so a little shelter is often appreciated. But in case of strong frost, you can trim the plant, either in spring or immediately after flowering. If more severe damage occurs, your Hebe can be cut right back to old wood and still will recover. If you want avoid it, you can also mulch around the base of the plant to give the main stems some protection in the winter time.
