Hebrews Day 11 I know Im doubling up today but I cant help it. Hebrews 4:1-11 is just packed with intensity and insights! I want to focus now on a comparison the author makes on the theme of rest. He writes that on the seventh day God rested from His work. Why did He rest? What kind of rest was it? For 6 days He had been building our planet step by step but by the end of day 6 He was finished. That is the key. God rested in a job that was done. Any rest we take before a task is completed is simply taking a break but this is the rest of a job that is all done. No more work needs to be done. Can you see it?! Are you following?! Verse 11 says we need to/must rest from our work just as God rested from His. God rested from a completed work. The planet and everything on it was finished and declared very good. Do not miss this... You are complete. You can rest. You must rest. Enter the rest of knowing you are already in the promised land. When Jesus hung on that cross for you exchanging your sinful life for His sinless one and dying in your place He boldly declared It is finished! You cannot add to it or take away from it. All you can do to ruin it is shrink back from the magnitude of the gift, declare yourself unworthy and/or unable to accept it and die in your unbelief. Dont do that. Embrace Him. Follow Him and rest in His completed work on your behalf...
