Heh. I learn something new everyday. I just realized that Windows 8 has ceased out of the box support to play DVDs and Blu-Ray discs! This technology IS proprietary, but traditionally has been supported right out the box for previous Windows platforms. That will not make many Windows 8 customers happy, Im sure. Options? VLC will be a good free option for DVD lovers. But VLCs support for Blu-Ray is not great (but continues to improve). Or... You could ante-up another licensing fee to Microsoft for the privilege. Depending on which Win 8 you have depends on the fee. WARNING its pricey if you are not already running Win 8 Pro... This lack of support for optic media is one of the biggest gripes I hear from new inexperienced Linux users. I wager it will have the same kind of reception to Windows community. And as time goes on, I predict this practice will be another well noted nail in Windows 8 popularity coffin. NOTE: Linux DOES HAVE support for optic media but it is not included straight out of the box due to potential licensing complications (if it is too difficult for you to set up, contact your favorite computer professional). Meanwhile Win8 users can download VLC from the link below. videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
