Heidi and kittens update: There has been a lot of kitty drama - TopicsExpress

Heidi and kittens update: There has been a lot of kitty drama over the last week and I wanted to let you all know what exactly isand was going on right from the beginning. Heidi was abandoned outside for at least 6 months during our severe winter, in a parking lot at James and Main, before she was in our care. She was found by a friend of Gail’s. Gail begged many of the other groups to get involved and help her because she is getting older and quite ill and really doesnt have the energy to foster as many as before. Not one other rescue offered to help, so she took them rather than see them go to Hamilton Animal Control to be euthanized. The mother seemed healthy and was able to carry her babies to term. Three died at birth and the rest were ok and mom was caring for them well. As the week went by the moms immune system let her down and she came down with a nasty cold. Three more babies died with in the first few days. By the end of the week, Heidi was down to two babies. Mom and babies were seen by Queensdale and they were given antibiotics, eye drops and lysin with vitamines in it. Our digital designer, Leah, stepped up to foster them when no one else would. She also took them to Queensdale to get them meds to help with their recovery. They continued their meds and seemed to recover well. When they were just over 9 weeks of age, they were returned in perfect health and ready for adoption. Heidi was not vaccinated when she first came into Kit Cat care because a pregnant cat will abort the babies if vaccinated. Soon after someone wanted to foster so Gail decided the kittens would be a good match since our policy doesn’t allow them to be adopted until twelve weeks. After being in the fosters home for a few days, one of the kittens got very ill with a fever so the foster Kathee took him to the kitty ER at Beatties, who have been involved with KCC for years. Gail was called from there and gave her ok for him to be treated. The Kitten was tested for FIV and was found negative. Gail told the foster mother Kathee we would re-imburse her for the vet bills incurred. We also asked Kathee to take the cats in future to Queensdale which is our vet now. Soon after, Heidi and Dutchess started to become suspiciously ill as well. Kathee the foster started posting negatively about KCC and we were baffled about why she was trying to cause us trouble when we gave her a cat and 2 kittens who had only a slight cold. She said they had been confirmed with a deadly disease which is false as they hadnt been tested yet. We are a rescue dedicated to saving the lives of cats and we have saved hundreds of cats and helped many low income people to have their cats seen by a vet and treated at our cost and often we have paid for it.. We decided that we should have the cat and kittens returned to the Kit Cat Club so another foster home could care for them. Kit Cat Club has no idea how it was possible for these cats to have Panleuk opoenia since none of our other cats in the house had been sick or have been sick since. Blood work would have been done to confirm it is Panleukopoenia. Most street cats come with some kind of illness and it costs us a great deal of money to keep them healthy. We cant test every cat before they go to fosters or adoptees or the cats would cost more than $400 each to adopt and no one would adopt them. In response to this we checked all the cats over and made sure none showed any signs and did a thorough cleaning of the home to rid it of the potential threat. Kathee is threatening to report us for neglect of vet care to the SPCA and has been pushed and advised to do so with the help of Jill McKerrow and Mary Merchant Herbert. They have encouraged many other people to see these posts and to share them with as many people as possible. For your information Jill McKerrow is NOT a vet and neither of them are rescue. Kit Cat Club have been a rescue for 9 years. Gail was rescuing for most of her life on her own. All rescues have cats with diseases but for some reason, KCC is singled out by these two. There actions are endangering our rescues ability to help cats and their kittens by slowing our adoptions and by giving people a very false, negative opinion about the Kit Cat Club. Kit Cat Club volunteers are feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated after all our work for over 10 years of saving cats and kittens, spaying/neutering and needling them. Often there are sick cats who cost us a lot of money so we are forever trying to fundraise and are becoming exhausted with the onslaught of slanderous accusations directed at the Kit Cat Club and Gail McGinnis and our many volunteers. Lisa Blaney, Leah Olivia Flannigan, Tamara Low and many others. We work too hard and do not deserve this treatment – nor do the innocent animals who suffer when our efforts are thwarted by those busy talking but doing nothing of true value to help cats. Please contact Gail McGinnis at (905)543-8092, Tamara Low (905)545-7730 or Lisa Blaney at (905)318-318-1632 if you would like the facts to back it up. If you support us, please let us know and help out where you can. We are the only STEET CAT rescue in Hamilton, we work particularly in the North East end where people are the poorest. There are many cats abandoned on our streets that are NOT spayed/neutered and will breed litters of strays and live a life of sickness and suffering without medical attention. We cant really take any more cats right now but cannot see someone lose their pets because of financial problems and homelessness. We do tend to help more than we can afford to and maybe that is a fault to some, but to our supporters it is a kind and good thing to be doing and they respect that we go the extra mile where others do not. This is why our supporters support us and keep us going. We could never raise enough money without them. These people have tried to get is out of the rescue business and Jill has said many times on her f/b page that she wont rest until we are out of the rescue business. Mary and others have now joined them but if you ask them for help, they will likely not help you. We will when we can. Thanks for listening, Gail McGinnis + KCCH Administration 905-543-8092 We have heard that someone is sending negative letters to people who like us, we hope you will read this and see for yourself why people support us.
