Hell Yes Fest starts tomorrow! Maybe you are one of those people who always tells comedians they meet [my significant other] and I *love* comedy but you have never once attended a New Orleans comedy show. Or maybe you dont think you like comedy because the concept of improv makes you uncomfortable because you think people are going to make you be in the show or something and youll get embarrassed. Or maybe you legitimately love comedy and want to check out the New Orleans scene. Or maybe you love New Orleans comedy but are overwhelmed by the HYF schedule or dont know much about the out-of-town performers. Heres a list of the shows Im excited about/am in that I hope will help you no matter what category youre in! WEDNESDAY: You know how you keep hearing about people like Louie CK dropping in on New Orleans open mics? Its because of the insanely hard-working people -- heros, really -- who run them. The opening night show will be all about those dudes. Rude. will be there to intro one of the comics. Tix here: bit.ly/1B3dRdR THURSDAY: You got two options for 8pm: Stupid Time Machine are some of the best performers and humans youll ever see. The writing and the performance of their sketches is so sharp, and being on tour with them I can attest to how much they work for it. And also how they play too much. Theyre doing their hourlong show, Hell Yes Fest Sketch: Sincerely, Stupid Time Machine. Hell Yes Fest Sketch: Impressionable (ATX) + Raw Honey (NOLA) features Megan Poncho Simon, an enviably talented comedian/musician from Austin who writes hilarious, relatable songs. Raw Honey are ya girls Molly Ruben-Long and Kate Mason, who do super silly, absurd sketch comedy. The two best stand-ups in New Orleans Joe Cardosi and Andrew Polk host their misanthropic/fun KARATEFIGHT at 9:30: bit.ly/1ujlo3r FRIDAY: Two options at 9pm: Vanessa Marie Gonzalez and Tami Nelson are the two performers whom everyone idolizes in their respective cities. They do life-changing solo sketch comedy for Vanessa Gonzalez + Oakwood Glen @ Hell Yes Fest! North Coast is an incredible hip-hop improv group from New York. They even have a beatboxer who is also the sweetest gal ever. Ont he same slot is Drunktoons which demonstrates the many talents of Lynae LeBlanc: HYF: North Coast with Drunktoons and most importantly ... Hell Yes Fest Sketch: Bad Example (ATX) + rude. (NOLA) is at 10:30! Were really excited about this show. Itll give you a taste of what you might see at one of our montly, hourlong shows that were going to start after the festival. SATURDAY: I perform improv with some of favorite friends ever in Assembly with a touring group from Richmond, Virginia: Hell Yes Fest Improv: Coalition TourCo + Assembly ... and then afterwards I race over to the AllWays Lounge to do stand-up for Stand Up! Records showcase: bit.ly/1zhM5FZ And then I hope to see Hell Yes Fest Sketch: tim&micah + Conversations with Body Language. I took an improv workshop with Tim conducted entirely in gibberish; Mike Spara is comedy game Charlie Chaplin.
