Hello All! The BSU will be hosting an awesome Boxes & Walls - TopicsExpress

Hello All! The BSU will be hosting an awesome Boxes & Walls room and we want you to be a part of it. Remember: This fulfills a CDS requirement! Our room title is Do You See Me Now? and its all about stereotypes and how people perceive black. We need: 2 black male actors 1 narrator (any color) 5-6 black or mixed people (women and men) You can volunteer for a minimum of a two hour shift. Or you can work more. Food will be provided! These are the shifts: 9:45AM - 12:15PM 12:00PM - 2:15PM 2:00PM - 4:15PM 4:00PM - 6:15PM Also, a rehearsal will be held at 7:30pm next Wednesday, October 22 in the Rice Lounge (basement of the Library). If you cannot make it to the rehearsal we will still work with you. Here is the script: (The room is divided into 3 sections. People come into the first section. There are two men standing in front of everyone, with a narrator off to the side. One man is wearing a hoodie and sweats. The other man is wearing a suit) Narrator: Youve taken a wrong turn in a big city and you are lost. It is getting dark, and this neighborhood looks rough. You feel unsafe and decide to ask someone for help. You see these two men; who would you feel comfortable asking? Why? (People will most likely say the guy in the suit) Narrator: Now let me tell you this. The man in the hoodie is walking home from the gym. He lives in a very nice neighborhood, but always takes a detour through this one because he hands out money to the homeless. The man in the suit is a drug dealer. He has just gotten out of a meeting with his new cocaine supplier. He has a gun in the back of his pants (he takes out a gun) and is prone to violence.... Who would you feel safe with now? What you see is not necessarily how things are. (The people walk to the next room. There are 5-6 people surrounding everyone. They start calling out reverse stereotypical remarks) This video if a good example of the things well say (without some of the racy stuff): youtube/watch?v=A1zLzWtULig And then everyone will move to the spoken word part and be on their way. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping out!
