Hello All, We all know that they are closing the drop off box at Kenai Shelter on December 31st. I have been requested to speak at the Kenai City Council meeting on January 7th by Mayor Porter about why this action is ill conceived. While being a well intended action - it turns back history almost 2 decades. The box was installed many years ago - for some VERY good reasons. Mayor Porter has asked that I bring as many like minded people to the meeting as possible. Having a large show of people helps sway the council members. NO ONE HAS TO SPEAK if they do not want to - except me. I just want to be able to motion to the audience and ask for a show of hands from the like minded people. Jez, this is not a political issue. This is an issue of animal welfare! Puppies and kittens do not need to be throw over the back fence in sacks or boxes. Dogs do not need to be tied to any stationary object at the shelter. Animals do not need to freeze and get frostbite or even freeze to Death. We do not need dogs on the airstrip causing aircraft to abort landings! ALL these things have happened in the past and will happen again if they permanently do away with the drop off box.
