Hello Australians As we wade through the mountain of information that has come out of the last federal budget and anxiously wait for the new state budget one thing is crystal clear, all training programs that are currently on offer are coming to a close and funding will not be renewed next year. That means once the up-skill opportunity’s has passed and new qualification requirements become mandatory, tradesmen will have to study at their own costs if they want to continue to work their trade. So a brief glimpse at the future in the Trades industry: 1. Trades assistants and labourers will be required to hold a Cert III in Engineering to apply for positions. They will have to pay for this study at their own cost. (Roughly between $12000 to $13000). 2. Apprentices will be finishing with dual Cert III & IV in Engineering, (they are currently being trained with Cert IV resources in anticipation for this change). Once they have these certificates they will be in a position to take jobs from tradesmen who may be experience rich but qualification poor. 3. All tradesmen will be required to hold Certificate IV in Engineering to continue working in the field, with some rumours of expanded licensing requirements. If they don’t hold these qualification they will need to pay for this study at their own cost. (Roughly $13000). I pass this information along not to scare but with the hope people will act now before it is too late. The Federal Government is in favour of importing workers from overseas and the pretence of a manufactured skills shortage gives them the platform to do it. Will you be caught?
