Hello Dayton High School Families! We are looking forward to - TopicsExpress

Hello Dayton High School Families! We are looking forward to seeing everyone return to school on Wednesday, August 13th. Cafeteria doors will open at 7:30 to serve students breakfast. First bell will be at 8:00 with all students expected to be in class by this time. We hope our 7th grade and 9th grade orientations at the end of July were beneficial to students/parents as they transition to middle school and high school respectively. We have had a busy summer packed with summer school, work on the buildings in preparation for the new school year, as well as hiring several new teachers/staff members. New teachers for the 2014-15 school year include the following: Joe Workman (Health/PE /Athletic Director), Brian Volpenhein (Language Arts), Brad Hunt (Mathematics), Andrew Brown (Mathematics), Anthony Broome (Mathematics), JT Lewis (Chemistry/Physics), Bob Sieko (Instructional Coach), and Casaundra Newsome (Guidance Counselor). We are excited about our new hires and believe each employee will be a positive addition to our staff. Parents who drop off their child before school will notice a new No-Entry sign has been purchased that will direct traffic through the alley between the high school and board of education building. Traffic will no longer be allowed to drive through the alley before or immediately after school. Many mornings we have delivery trucks that block the alley and it is our belief having traffic driving behind the school where students are walking is a potential safety hazard. Students will be able to pick up their 2014-15 class schedules with locker number and combination before school on Wednesday morning. Middle school students will have the opportunity to pick up their schedule in the cafeteria while high school grades 9-12 can go into the library and pick up a schedule. If your child needs to change their schedule, he/she will need to go to the office and pick up a schedule change request form. After completing the form, including required signatures, the student will turn the form into Ms. Newsome. Ms. Newsome will review the request, make approved changes and deliver a new schedule to the student. If you have questions about this process, please contact the office. Students will also receive important documents on the first day of school that will need to be completed by parents. Students can return the completed forms to their first bell teachers as soon as possible. The Income Verification Form, which is included in this packet, is extremely valuable to our district. Each student needs to complete this form as your child’s educational resources, such as Title I, Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, and grant opportunities, depend on completion of these forms. It’s going to be a GREAT year at Dayton High School! Thank you!
