Hello Everyone… After a long…really long…campaign it is now over and, as most of you already know, I did not win. This was an entirely new experience for me and I learned a lot. I put forth what I feel was my best effort, but apparently that wasnt enough in this case. I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who helped me throughout the campaign. To those who provided advice, financial support, and put signs in their yards…thank you. To those who hosted coffee socials in their homes and canvassed door-to-door with me…thank you. To those who provided walking lists and mailing lists, and those who gave me words of encouragement…thank you. And, to everyone who voted for me…thank you very much. I wish that I was reporting a different outcome, but its not to be. However, the issues raised during the campaign have by no means been resolved, nor will they be anytime soon. Our hospital still faces very significant and difficult issues and the Board of Commissioners, such as it is, together with the hospitals management, will be challenged to meet them successfully. It is incumbent upon us to remain interested and to pay attention to what decisions are made. Stay involved and provide input. The contact information for Vince Oliver, Island Hospitals CEO and that of the individual commissioners is on the hospitals web site. If you have an opinion about something, let them know. The Community Advisory Committee is likely to continue in some fashion (as yet undefined) so you can talk to those people as well to let them know how you feel about the hospital and what it should be doing to serve the needs of the community.
