Good morning . . . heres what is making the news around the County Town today: Confirmation this morning from the fire service that a man has died following a house fire in Langport. Fire crews were called to the property in the early hours of yesterday morning following reports of smoke coming from the building. One female occupant pulled from the property suffered from smoke inhalation however the man in his 60’s who was seriously injured as a result of the fire later died in hospital. As part of its campaign to get more people thinking about adoption, Somerset County Council is asking the County to vote for its favourite story time book. During National Adoption Week in November, the Council will be celebrating the special moments parents and their children share when reading. As part of that, it is running an online public vote to find out what Somersets favourite childrens story is. A new housing scheme to enable older people keep their independence in their homes is being launched by Taunton Deane Borough Council working in partnership with Knightstone Housing. The housing association has secured funding from the Homes and Communities Agency to develop an extra care/flexible retirement scheme at Parmin Close, Taunton. It will be designed for people aged 60 and over, who will benefit from support and care in order to retain their independence. The partners plan to build 80 self contained apartments with 65 for rent and 15 for shared ownership. It will include a community hall and dining facilities. Taunton Deane Borough Council will provide the land as part of its contribution to the scheme. The Council is also helping residents to move out of their existing homes in Parmin Close with some moving into new homes in Ruskin Close and Victoria Gate which are nearby.
