Hello Everyone: Today I have 15 pictures of both the Pacific - TopicsExpress

Hello Everyone: Today I have 15 pictures of both the Pacific Electric and some vintage Los Angeles Railway streetcar photos for you today. 1. Pacific Electric Freight locomotive no. 1601 with a 2 boxcar freight drag near the Watts Junction area. This is probably heading out to the Graham Ave. yard. (This is now a park today) 2. Here is Hollywood type car no. 5121 running as a special to the Catalina steamship dock. I am assuming that this is either the off season or that this just might be an excursion of some sorts as the Catalina Specials were usually run with interurban type cars. 3. Here is P.C.C. car no. 5000 running on the Glendale-Burbank Line sometime in the early 1950`s. 4. Here is a Pacific Electric Catalina Special excursion ticket. Now we have some interesting (I hope) Los Angeles Railway streetcar pictures. Most of these cars seen here were known as California Cars because the ends of the cars had permanently open windows with shades while the center of the car was enclosed in case of cold or bad weather. Another car seen here is the old wooden Huntington Standard car. These cars lasted well into the streamlined streetcar era and were phased out in 1958 and 1959. 5. Here is car no. 447 on line 9 at the five points intersection. (The shop at the right was seen in the T.V. series Highway Patrol. 6.Car no 950 is seen laying over near Thelma`s Café. Look at everyone milling around and watching the photographer. 7. Here is P.C.C. car no. 3020 at the Rampart Blvd stop on Line 3. Shortly after this picture was taken this line was replaced by a trolleybus line; one of two in Los Angeles. (Note the double s wires overhead to the right and left of the trolley. 8. I can`t see the number on this California Car but it is seen here crossing York Boulevard (so the caption on the back says). If you look behind the Shell sign on the left you can see how the photographer lined up the Chicken Parts sign on the building with the pole to sort of change the sign. 9. Here is California Car No. 1235 on Line 10 at its terminus at City Terrace. This line was abandoned and given over to a trolleybus line (No. 3 I believe) 10. Car 1246 on Line 8. Not sure of the location. Anyone out there know? 11. The other type of California car was this model known as a Series H car. This is no. 1277 running on line 5 (or maybe Line S) at the Pacific Electric Santa Monica Air Line crossing. Many of these cars were sold to South Korea, some were thrown into the ocean to provide marine life heavens, and some were junked with the other California cars at National Metals on Terminal Island. 12.Car no. 1405 on line 5 at Ave 28 & Figueroa in 1955 13. Car no. 1532 on Eagle Rock Boulevard. The real estate office was once again featured in the series Highway Patrol (I think this is the one) 14.Here is car no. 1242 on line 5. again does anybody know this location? Also note the gas prices at the Scout Gas station in the left background. 15. Here is wooden Huntington Standard car no. 450 at the Mission Terminus of Line 9. Many of these Huntington Standard cars were scrapped shortly after the arrival of the more stronger steel California cars, the Series H cars as well as the P.C.C. streamliners. These were taken to Terminal Island and burned. A few did survive thanks in part to the motion picture studios. ENJOY.
