JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Peacebuilder Youth Support Specialist Reports To: Peacebuilder Program Director, Program Coordinator or designee Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Respond and provide crisis management; initiate, establish and maintain positive working relationships with law enforcement officials, Hartford Public Schools, community agencies and local businesses; ; provide assessment and develop action plans to assigned youth; conduct assessments and detailed client data on a monthly basis; provide home, school and court visits as necessary; contact all youth on caseload on a weekly basis; collect data; provide reports as needed; identify families’ needs and provide assistance where appropriate and necessary; identify, ; plan and manage all educational and recreational activities; engage, recruit and advocate for youth at risk for violence; follow all company policies and procedures; treat all staff, participants and customers in a professional manner . Qualifications (Include education, training and experience): High School Diploma/GED Experience working with youth at high risk for gang involvement Experience working with youth at high risk for violent acts Experience working with urban youth Experience working with Public School Systems Experience developing and implementing prevention programming Experience in advocating, assessing needs and developing plans for high risk populations Knowledge of the resources within the Hartford Community Requirements (Include transportation, nontraditional work hours, on call): Must own a safe and maintained vehicle for use on company business Maintain and provide documentation of Valid Driver’s License, Registration, Vehicle Insurance Work nontraditional work hours Be on call for city wide crisis and client emergency situations Use of personal cell phone for business related matters Satisfactory completion of the Introductory Employment Period Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Includes mental, physical and environmental): Sound Judgment and Decision-Making Skills Good Written and Interpersonal skills Ability to frequently climb stairs, walk and stand for long periods of time Ability to set priorities Proficient computer & Internet skills Ability to effectively interface with the agency customers Ability to assimilate new information/technology Ability to work independently and be self motivated Effective leadership and training skills Ability to read, write and speak Spanish is a plus.
