Hello Foreign Volunteers Japan, During the past year I was the Director of Volunteering on the AJET National Council and a section editor for the Connect Magazine. I want to introduce you to my successors. Tka Tyne is the new National AJET Director of Volunteering, you can contact her at [email protected]. Nate Berne is the new editor for the Volunteering section of Connect and can be contacted at [email protected]. Both of them look forward fostering more volunteering opportunities and sharing your stories in the JET community. I am staying on the Connect team and will be the AJET and JETAA liason. You can contact me at [email protected]. Read, follow, and share Connect online at issuu/ajetconnect. You can read Tka and Nate’s short introductions below. My name is Tka Tyne and I am the new National AJET Block 11 Representative and also, Director of Volunteering. I am a 1st year ALT from Florida, but I’m originally from Jamaica. My passions include traveling and learning about new cultures. I spent the last 3 plus years living abroad – 1 year teaching English in South Korea, 2 years volunteering in Guyana and now, working in Japan. I am super excited to coordinate community service initiatives for JETs and Japanese nationals with your guidance. One of my goals this year is to organize a community service trip to Philippines next year. In addition, I want to continue the Race to the Top initiative and overall, foster more local and national volunteer opportunities for individuals to give back. I look forward to working with everyone over the next year. I know I have some big shoes to fill (Thank you, Michelle Castro), but with your help, I know this year will be a success. [email protected] Nate Berne comes from Portland, Oregon, Nate attended Carleton College in Minnesota (central US), dual-majored in English and Media, and wrote a thesis on Professional Wrestling (passed with Distinction -- joke, but no-joke). After a brief career in Portland journalism, he attended Chapman University for an MFA in Screenwriting, and spent the next six years breaking into the film industry of Los Angeles. Nate also works as a Prefectural Adviser in Okayama, trains at two karate schools, announces boxing matches, volunteers at ekaiwas and helps at local Scouting and Sports events events throughout the Chugoku region. Hes always seeking the next adventure, and is always looking for ways to bring the world to everyone through their own efforts in service, volunteering, and cross-global cooperation. Hes glad to know you all, and as soon as he meets you, hell tell you so himself. Looking forward to a great year ahead [email protected]
