Hello French Immersion families, Regarding why certain comments were deleted yesterday: As Andrea indicated in her update, speculating on personnel issues exposes PTO to legal liability for defamation. For that reason, it’s necessary for PTO Facebook page administrators to delete any postings relating to the school administration’s personnel decisions, regardless whether they impact the viability of the intern program. Decisions about postings are made based upon this policy, including consideration of what may open the door to further comments that could delve into speculation and possibly defamatory content. Regarding the comments about PTO funds on hand: The posted minutes of each monthly PTO meeting include the Treasurer’s report. If you need more detailed information, please contact Treasurer Mark Christenson ([email protected]). We fundraise for the following school year so that the intern program can be funded at the beginning of the school year. The PTO begins each school year with money in the bank raised from the previous school year. We budget that money for the new school year. The past two years PTO spent more than it raised and our bank balance dipped. We want to have sufficient funds to provide for the optimal number of interns, which is 15. Right now we really don’t know how many interns we can obtain for next year and whether some other--possibly more expensive—method for procuring interns would be more advantageous. We’re trying to raise as much as possible now so that we can maximize the number of interns we host, which of course is also dependent on having host families available. In addition to the intern program, there is always an expectation for PTO to fund other programs that benefit our children. We sponsor and pay for Destination Imagination, Math Olympiad, Geo Bee, Grandparent Day, as well as enrichment programs like Earth Adventure. PTO provides funds for teacher appreciation and supplies, the Principal’s discretionary fund (scholarships) and more. The Site Council is starting to review next year’s District budget with Dr. Lawson. While every year has budget constraints, next year’s LNFI budget appears more challenging than in the past, which means that there may be more application to PTO to cover the shortfall. The amount of funds on hand fluctuates as bills are paid. Cash on hand is variable. After our Spring Party Saturday night we’ll have a better picture of the amounts that will be available to fund next year’s programs. At the end of the year, the Finance Committee will post the amount being carried forward to next year. Please attend the Spring Party, which is also a great opportunity to meet and socialize with other parents and staff. Since our budgetary allocations and financial information are readily available on our official website, we try to minimize the “blasts” of information. Also, the Executive Committee collaborates regarding all communications to our constituents. For example, Andrea Plautz’s response earlier today involved input from me and other members of the Executive Committee, even though our names did not appear. Thank you for being concerned parents. Come to the Spring Event tomorrow night; we look forward to seeing you. Sincerely, Deidre Greene, LNFI PTO President
