Hello Minions! Feel free to chime in below! I just returned home after busking in the streets of Raleigh. (Busking is the act of performing your artistic abilities whilst hoping for tips to generate income) I was near the Farmers Market on a beautiful day in North Carolina. There were fresh flowers, there was fresh produce, and welcoming hearts from the vendors in the market. I was singing my heart out for over an hour and I want to give you a picture of what I experienced today. People walking on the other side of the street would cross over to listen and they would smile... some folk stuck around a few more minutes just to take in the environment... I saw many people in the park across the street with the Giant acorn with their arm on their vehicle door, as thought they were going to leave but didnt. After some of my more passionate acoustic songs, I could even hear claps from people all around me... But at the end of the day, I looked in my case, and there were 3 dollars give to me by one gentleman. As an artist that relies on her music as income... I have to wonder, why do people love to listen, but cant contribute? Do you think I am standing on the corner in the hot summer sun, belting my lungs out risking laryngitis just to show off? You dont think I am so delusional that I believe I am on American Idol, or a spectacle believing that she will be discovered between the farmers market and the construction crew? Perhaps you believe I enjoy the smell of exhaust fumes and singing louder than buses... Its a very painful thing to see you look at me across the way, and here I stand before you, naked, baring my soul and everything I have and I NEED you...YOU CAN help me stay alive... but you wont... I ask that if you walk by an artist on the street next time, to engage with them in some regard. I am not a screen you should look upon zombified.. speak to me... talk to me... I see you like it, and I want to like that you like it. Thank God the folk at the farmers market gave me food, I was hungry today... it seems as though its the people that have the least that give the most. xoxo Love n Light, ~Mysti Mayhem~
