Hello, One or two people have kicked up a stink over individual - TopicsExpress

Hello, One or two people have kicked up a stink over individual registrations, the registration process and the pay-per-player fee. This league has become too big to try and run out a separate savings account within my own bank account. And I am pretty sure that is pretty much illegal too. We are currently in the process of registering the SRHL as a non-for-profit sporting organisation to further our goals of legitimising the league. Remember this is a community based social sporting project. Paying a small amount to participate in a 12 game season allows us to cover our insurance and administration costs. It also allows a small reservoir of money to organise end-of-season events without myself having to personally go into debt (as I have had to do the last 2 parties). We are also looking to expand the league and are working on a number of exciting projects that we can hopefully reveal later in the week once we have gained approval. In terms of insurance, it is bloody expensive. Every player has to be covered under the leagues public liability insurance policy even if you only play one game in a season. Because of this we cant offer one-off game player registrations as it still costs us the same no matter how many games you play. On top of the public liability, our insurance dude has highly recommended getting player accident cover for each player. I am still working it out with him but I will see if we can make this an optional extra. Personally I think its worth it. As you probably all know the anti-christ Francis Staude fractured my scaphoid 3 weeks ago and I have been unable to work due to my bulky cast. If I had player accident cover, I would be able to cover some of the costs which would make me hate Frank a little bit less. Paying to play also gives people a bit more incentive to play their games every week. Too many times last season games werent played because people flaked for fairly trivial reasons. Having already forked out the cost to play the game, people will want to get their moneys worth and play as many games as possible for their team. $50 also makes the SRHL the cheapest sport league in Australian history. I personally pay $500 to play footy and $450 to play baseball every year. Ice hockey in WA is like $1000+ and the Claremont Inline League is $330 per season. In closing, street hockey is my new favourite sport in the world now. We already have around 10 new teams joining for the 2014b season. I (and others) will keep playing. You may as well join us Kind regards, Eamonn Lourey
