Hello TCS family and friends! We have survived our first - TopicsExpress

Hello TCS family and friends! We have survived our first (hot) work day in the Dominican Republic! We started our morning in worship together on the patio before heading out for our first day of work. Our students and parents were absolutely wonderful out at the work site today. We were able to lay a concrete floor in a house that is currently under construction in the neighborhood of Cielo. Near the end of the work, we were also able to meet the owner of the house- a single mother with two children who is currently attending university. After lunch, the students were able to go into the community and build relationships with the neighborhood children. There were footballs being thrown, beach balls bounced and hair being braided by the children. It was truly wonderful. One of the best things about working with Mission Emanuel and coming back to the same community is to see those that have been here before go back to visit previous work sites and even re-connect with children they met when they were here. This morning, while Cara and Diane Eakins were walking through the neighborhood, they saw the young boy that Connor had built a relationship with last year. Diane had brought a picture of the two of them and was able to give it to the boy who was thrilled. In the afternoon, Maddie Brown was able to meet some of the children her sister and mother had met when they were here two years ago and Mrs. Marvin was able to re-connect with a young lady that she met in the school when she was in eighth grade two years ago. These stories and encounters are just another way that God reveals himself to us by reminding us of the impact we can have even in just four days. Tonight we will enjoy our Dominican culture night where we will learn about Dominican culture, partake in Dominican cuisine and from what I remember, there will be some dancing, as well! Thank you for your continued prayers for safety and for the work we are doing. I will continue to keep you updated! With love and joyful hearts, The Christ School DR Team 2014
