Hello again beautiful people! Thought it was time for another general update about the adventures of a girl named Jake! Not sure where I left off as of my last email but currently I am in Chiang Mai Thailand staying at a lovely guesthouse with private room/bathroom for a whopping $8.90 a night. This is a very interesting city with a 1km square wall with moat built around the old city back in the 1200s I believe as protection from the Burmese. Fairly laid back place as compared to Kuala Lumpur with a really neat ambiance. Ive explored numerous, gorgeous temples in town as well as in the surrounding mountain areas. Part of my reason for journeying this way was due to a marvellous encounter with a Burmese monk who lives at a temple near Chiang Mai in the city of Lampang. He invited me to stay and study meditation with his teacher and join in a traditional celebration on Nov 1. As many of you may know, one of the items on the top of my want to experience in SE Asia agenda ... if you could call it that ;) ... is to reside at a temple for a month. Janaka is a very happy, friendly monk and we shared some great conversations. Im really looking forward to seeing him again and trekking out to Wat Tamaoh (Tamaoh Temple) this week. When I arrived in Chiang Mai on Saturday, I was exhilarated to learn that the traditional Festival of Lights was taking place that night. This event is impossible to describe and no picture can do it justice, but imagine thousands of huge paper lanterns released into the sky at the same time for hours on end... with song and chanting coming from the nearby temple and literal seas of people taking in the festivities. Food venders everywhere and so much to see. Ive never experienced anything quite as beautiful to be honest. It was breathtaking! The tour I took to the event cost me $3 for 7hrs of awesomeness and as it turned out, the 9 other people with me were an international group of peeps studying Thai massage together. I became one of the gang quickly and we had an amazing time. Loic (From island south of France) and I have been sharing time together around his classes and exploring this beautiful place while Im here. Hes a fabulous and fun person! I applied for an entertainment contract at a hotel in Morocco today that one of my agents sent me so well see where that leads. Ive been playing my harp and singing in the parks, drawing pretty decent crowds of people from all over the globe. Very rewarding... however oddly my voice is only about 75% in this humidity which is weird... expected the opposite but rolling with it for now. Easy enough to sing lower when necessary and no one knows the difference. Hope everything is fabulicious in your worlds! Miss you! Love you oodles! Big Hugs Jakeroozers
