Hello all, Happy feast day to all born, baptized and married today Happy feast day to all Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, Monks, Nuns, Rev Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus Happy feast day to all Christians Happy feast day to all Catholics Happy feast day to all devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Happy feast day to all Catholic Faithful of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Happy Feast day to all Catholic Missionary Today June 27th, marks Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a moveable feast, which means that it depends on the date of Easter Sunday. The Feast is celebrated 19 days after Pentecost Sunday, which falls on the 50th day of Easter. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus goes back at least to the 11th century, but through the 16th century, it remained a private devotion, often tied to devotion to the Five Wounds of Christ. Catholic History confirms that the first feast of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” was celebrated on August 31, 1670, in Rennes, France, through the efforts of Father Jean Eudes (1602-1680). From Rennes, the devotion spread, but it took the visions of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) for the devotion to obtain papal approval and become a universal feast in the Church. In all of these visions, in which Jesus appeared to Saint Margaret Mary, the Sacred Heart of Jesus played a central role. The “great apparition,” which took place on June 16, 1675, during the octave of the Feast of Corpus Christi, is the source of the modern Feast of the Sacred Heart. In that vision, Jesus Christ asked Saint Margaret Mary to request that the Feast of the Sacred Heart be celebrated on the Friday after the octave (or eighth day) of the Feast of Corpus Christi, in reparation for the ingratitude of men for the sacrifice that Christ had made for them. The “Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” represents not simply His physical heart but His love for all mankind! The devotion became quite popular after Saint Margaret Mary’s death in 1690, but, because the Church initially had doubts about the validity of Saint Margaret Mary’s visions, it wasn’t until 1765 that the feast was celebrated officially in France. Catholic History tells us that almost 100 years later, in 1856, at the request of the French bishops the “Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” was extended to the universal Church by Pope Blessed Pius IX (who was the 255th Bishop of Rome and Head of the Catholic Church since the pontificate of Saint Peter the Apostle) Catholic Tradition confirms that the “Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” is celebrated on the day requested by our Lord—which is the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi, or 19 days after Pentecost Sunday. The Sacred Heart of Jesus, like all else that belongs to His Person, is worthy of adoration The worship paid to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, extends further than the Heart of flesh, being directed to the love of which this Heart is the living and expressive symbol. On this point the devotion requires no justification, as it is to the “Person of Jesus” that it is directed; but to the Person as inseparable from His Divinity! Jesus, the living apparition of the goodness of God and of His paternal love, Jesus infinitely loving and amiable, studied in the principal manifestations of His love, is the object of the devotion to the Sacred Heart, as indeed He is the object of the Christian religion. The proper act of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is required by the very object of the devotion, since devotion to the “love of Jesus” for us should be pre-eminently a devotion of “love for Jesus”. Today’s “Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” is characterized by a reciprocation of love; The aim of the Feast is to love Jesus who has so loved us, to return love for love. Since, moreover, the “love of Jesus” manifests itself to the devout soul as a love despised and outraged, especially in the Holy Eucharist, the love expressed in the devotion to the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” naturally assumes a character of: • Reparation, and hence the importance of acts of atonement for sins committed. • The Communion of reparation, and • Compassion for Jesus suffering. But no special act, no practice whatever, can exhaust the riches of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus! The love which is its soul embraces all and, the better one understands it, the more firmly is he convinced that nothing can vie with it for making Jesus live in us and for bringing him who lives by it to love God, in union with Jesus, with all his heart, all his soul, all his strength. ------------------------------------------------------------------- On all sides it was asked for and obtained, and finally, in 1856, at the urgent entreaties of the French bishops, Pope Blessed Pius IX extended the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to the Universal Church under the rite of double major. In 1889, the feast was raised by the Church to the double rite of first class. The acts of consecration and of reparation were everywhere introduced together with the devotion. Oftentimes, especially since about 1850, groups, congregations, and States have consecrated themselves to the Sacred Heart, and, in 1875, this consecration was made throughout the Catholic world. Finally, on the 11th of June, 1899, by order of Pope Leo XIII (who was the 256th Vicar of Christ and Servant of God since the pontificate of Saint Peter the Apostle), and with the formula prescribed by the Holy Father, all mankind was solemnly consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus! The idea of this act, which Pope Leo XIII called the great act of his pontificate, had been proposed to him by a religious of the Good Shepherd from Oporto (Portugal) who said that she had received it from Christ Himself. She was a member of the Drost-zu-Vischering family, and known in religion as Sister Mary of the Divine Heart. She died on the feast of the Sacred Heart, two days before the consecration, which had been deferred to the following Sunday. Whilst alluding to these great public manifestations we must not omit referring to the intimate life of the devotion in souls, to the practices connected with it, and to the works and associations of which it was the very life. Moreover, we must not overlook the social character which it has assumed particularly of late years. The Catholics of France, especially, cling firmly to it as one of their strongest hopes of ennoblement and salvation. -------------------------------------------- Quote of the Day: (words of Our Lord Jesus Christ) I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment -(Words of Christ Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary). ---------------------------------------------------------- Reflection of the Day “Words of Pope Benedict XVI (the 265th Bishop of Rome)” The deepest longing of Christs Heart is that we discover how much he loves us, the extent of his tender love for creatures who, cooled by their selfishness, look only inwards at themselves, as if they were afraid to let themselves be loved unconditionally by their Creator, who asks nothing and gives all! How society, culture, economy, politics today need this Heart! It is really true, the more man distances himself from God-Love the more he becomes heartless, agitated about a thousand things because he has mislaid the principal one: • to let oneself be loved by Christ and • respond to this Love with our love. Many times during history the Supreme Pontiffs have reminded humanity that without the Lord Jesus life has no real meaning, man gropes in the dark to find himself! “Open, open wide the doors to Christ” the voice of the Holy Spirit continues to say. By means of Eucharistic adoration we are “opened” from within by His invisible working in us. The Most Holy Eucharist, celebrated and adored, as the Church teaches us, is the greatest and most effective treasure of our salvation, an infinite treasure which must be safeguarded with profound respect and deepest devotion. Close to the Heart of the Son is the Heart of the Mother whom the Church celebrates the day after the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Let it again be the Holy Father who illuminates us with regard to this mystery: “The heart that resembles that of Christ more than any other is without a doubt the Heart of Mary, his Immaculate Mother, and for this very reason the liturgy holds them up together for our veneration. Responding to the Blessed Virgin Marys invitation at Fatima, let us entrust the whole world to her Immaculate Heart, so that it may experience the merciful love of God and know true peace” - (Pope Benedict XVI, Angelus 5th of June 2005). -------------------------------------------------------------------- Let us pray (Oremus) Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that we, who glory in the Heart of your beloved Son and recall the wonders of his love for us, may be made worthy to receive an overflowing measure of grace from that fount of heavenly gifts. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. ------------------------------------------------------------- Let us pray that through the “Sacred Heart of Jesus”, we may in this group find the spiritual motivation to win our souls for God. Amen History of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be viewed by clicking the photo of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” in our groups photo section. Feast of the day would be communicated to you as promptly and consistently as humanly possible, by Gods grace. May we all in this group and beyond this group, Christians and non Christians alike, Catholics and non Catholics alike, be saved from the fires of hell and lifted up into heaven after our stay here on this exile. Amen May our Lord Jesus Christ, through His Most Sacred Heart and through Gods Divine Mercy strengthen our souls, open out the way for us all, and above all, intoxicate us with HIS love. Amen May Christ make us into blazing fires to enkindle the earth with the heavenly fire HE brought us. Amen Jesus we love you, all we have is yours, yours we are and yours we want to be, please do with us whatever you will. Amen. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we give you our lives and our salvation. Amen Jesus, Mary we love you, please save our souls. Amen God bless you and grant your heart’s desire. Amen Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Amen.
