Hello all. I hardly update. I hope you can recognize the significance of this, an update, given that empirical fact. I found myself at Barnes and Noble today and, on a whim, picked up Id Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High - Tony Danzas reflection on being a 60-year-old high school English teacher in he inner city. The man had a reality show that followed his venture into teaching; this book could be considered the companion to his television show. Everyone that teaches, used to teach, wants to teach, might want to teach, or knows a teacher should READ THIS BOOK. It is by far the most honest look at the machinations of a first-year teacher. Period. End of story. The major unyielding bitterness that I carry from my time in the CSUSM teaching program is its absolute lack of relatable teaching literature: hearing venerable masters or other experienced voices sing the praises of their profession is of little help to a beginner. This book presents teaching from a fresh, realistic perspective. (The fact that teaching being presented as realistic is fresh says something about the prevailing literature.) I was only able to read the first four chapters, but every damn page was me during my first year. It was enough to make me tear up. I got emotional READING A BOOK WRITTEN BY TONY DANZA. Go read Id Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High. Do it.
