The only way one may argue that India was "made a nation" by the British is if one takes only a very narrow interpretation of the Westphalian system of nation-states. And that, too, requires a big stretch of imagination. Cultural, Socially, Politically, Ideologically, Administratively, India has been a "nation" for the past 5000-odd years. Has this nationhood been iron-cast for those 5000-odd years? No. But show me one nation which has. If anything, British rule bifurcated my nation. For me, India will always be what Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj envisioned (and others before and after him achieved) - "From Attock to Cuttack".
