Volunteers needed.... Facing Africa is a UK based NGO that brings teams of surgeons to Addis twice a year to carry out very complex facial reconstruction on children who have survived the ravages of a facial flesh eating disease called "noma". see our web site facingafrica.org . The kids that we treat are from families living in extreme poverty in rural areas of Ethiopia. They remain in our care for up to 8 weeks. We are looking for a few volunteers (unpaid) who would consider visiting the patients at the Cheshire Home rehabilitation Center in menagesha (about 18 km from Addis on the road to Ambo) to teach them games, simple skills, perhaps a little English, drawing, playing football, sewing etc. Our next group of patients will be arriving at the Cheshire Home around 20th Sept, so if anyone is willing to give up the occasional day or a few hours to help these amazing people, please let me know ( [email protected]). The patients will be at the Cheshire Home from 20th Sept - about 20th November, so any free day you have would be greatly appreciated. Please call our Ethiopian Manager Betty Assefa on 0911 168178 for full details.
