Hello all:) Ive reached the point in our journey where I feel like I can take on the task of keeping those that want to follow updated. I appreciate the energy Lindsey (my sister) has put into this site. It has been such an encouragement knowing that people have been kept informed so they would know how to pray for Wilkes and our family. So...Wilkes and I get to go home tomorrow!! (Until our next appointment on Wednesday). This is not a permanent thing, but hopefully home for good should be soon. Wilkes counts are continuing to rise on their own, which is encouraging as he hasnt needed the shot that boosts his white count in almost 2 weeks. The chimerism result from last week was about the same as the week before so they have decided to proceed with a boost once they get insurance approval. They will take some of Averys marrow that was frozen when they did the harvest for his first transplant and infuse it through his central line. They had originally told us we would probably do this inpatient, but have now said we can do it in clinic. It will be a long day because they have to monitor him very closely. Apparently the preservative that is put in the bone marrow causes a high incidence of adverse reaction. They said it can cause vomiting, low blood pressure, heart rate, etc. They will watch him for 4 or 5 hours after infusion and then if all is well we will come back to Ronald McDonald. Then for the first few weeks after the boost , they will want to see us 2 or 3 times a week to monitor closely for GVHD. Anytime more T cells (part of the cells in the bone marrow) are infused, there is a higher risk for GVHD. However his body has already accepted Averys T cells as his own, so they are optimistic that we shouldnt have any issues. Once they see that there are no problems, we will get to go home for good:) hopefully by Christmas!! As always, thank you so much for praying! You will never know how much it means to us! Love, Bekah
