Hello all, We would like to announce our 2014-2015 distinguished speakers for Global Conversations in Literacy Research, a critical literacy project that offers a series of one hour live, open-access and participatory seminars to global audiences interested in literacy education, research, and practice. Funded in part by the National Writing Project (nwp.org), we hope that you will include these talks as part of your professional development, as part of your syllabi, and share this information with others through social media networking who may be interested in attending but are not yet aware of this project (globalconversationsinliteracy.wordpress) SEPTEMBER 14, 2014: Dr. David Kirkland, New York University, New York, USA; “A Song of the Smoke: Critical Thoughts on the Literacies of Young Black Men.” 7:00 p.m. Eastern time zone/New York/USA. OCTOBER 12, 2014: Dr. Richard Beach, University of Minnesota, USA: How Affordances of Digital Tool Use Foster Critical Literacy. 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time Zone/USA. NOVEMBER 9, 2014: Dr. David Berliner, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ USA: “Education, politics and literacy.” 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time Zone/USA. JANUARY 25, 2015: Dr. Barbara Comber, Queensland University of Technology, Queensland, Australia; Place-based Literacy Pedagogy. FEBRUARY 8, 2015: Dr. Jackie Marsh, University of Sheffield, UK; Childrens literacy in a digital age. MARCH, 2015: Dr. Jim Cummins, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Ontario, Toronto, Canada; Identity Texts. Over the past four years, GCLR has offered live open-access professional development for over 3000 people across the globe. The GCLR website has nearly 30,000 visits, over 60,000 hits, been visited by people from 120 countries! Thanks to funding provided by the National Writing Project, we launched our GCLR YouTube channel five months ago with past presentations uploaded; this channel has recorded nearly 4000 views. We invite you to access these archived web seminars, consider adding them to your course syllabi, and/or use these seminars as vehicles for student/professional learning groups (https://youtube/channel/UCay7UB8Mm5SpRnPy6Mxl5Gg).
