Hello all, hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays. There is a meeting planned on January 29th with Kansas McGahan (Placer County Project Manager), Tim Merten (Lake Tahoe Basin Mgt. Unit), Susanne Jensen (Tahoe National Forest Rep), and a few guys from FOTR and RTF to work on putting the items we as a group have identified as work that needs to be done on the Placer County portion of the Rubicon Trail. Kansas has asked that we keep this meeting very small, so it won’t be open to attend by all, but I do want to solicit input and make sure all of our voices are heard. I will get minutes out from the meeting afterwards. 1. One item that I know we must complete early on is lining the energy dissipater below potato patch and the corresponding discharge that the contractors constructed this year. 2. Another is work on improving rolling dips and other BMP’s on the trail. In time, I would like to see us develop an Adopt-A-Trail (AAT) like is being used on the El Dorado Portion to hopefully foster more ownership of the items on the Placer County side. With normal cleanouts being done by the AAT clubs and FOTR facilitating any help to those clubs with larger projects or improving BMP’s. 3. Another is the placement of a toilet like that is in the Springs up at Observation. Before we can make headway on that, I know one problem seen by TNF is the servicing of the unit. I have commitment from the Caretakers for the periods that they are in the Springs but we need a hard commitment from a club, or a consortium of clubs to tend to it in the shoulder seasons. This would entail raking it as needed and ensure the cleanliness of the unit. For that matter, if anyone is aware of any better mouse traps for this location, please speak up J I am attaching the documents that I have from prior planning meetings so everyone can look over them and narrow down, what we need/want to accomplish in 2015 and then start working on a time table to get all of the other items addressed. I am sure everyone understands that not every item will be addressed at the same time. What we are hoping to accomplish is to put an immediate and a long range goal together complete with costs, needed materials and basic timeline to work towards. I had hoped to have an excel completed with all the items on it to distribute to you all, but the firehouse and personal stuff has kept that from happening, but I felt it important to get this out there now so we as a group can develop a comprehensive plan. This is still a project I hope to get done soon. It would be very helpful if you have a suggestion for the list, please include how you seeing it being accomplished (by FOTR, County, Contractors) and if you foresee any obstacles, what those are and possible resolutions to them. Respectfully, Eric M. Agee Tahoe FOTR Lead [email protected]
