Hello all, please join us for our next CIRGE Writing Seminar next week on Wednesday, March 12th from 10am-11pm in the SCBE Conference Room! *NOTE THE SPECIAL TIME* CIRGE post-bacc Emily Liu will present a paper called Representing Autism: A Demographic Analysis of Public Comment Sessions at the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee. This paper focuses on the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, the Federal Advisory Committee specific to autism research and services that functions as both a coordinating body and representative public forum, allowing community stakeholders to present in-person oral public comments to the Committee. Though the IACC is intended to be accessible to all stakeholders, the emphasis that public comments be given in-person creates significant practical barriers to participation that may impact which stakeholders are represented and, consequently, how the IACC perceives the needs and concerns of affected stakeholders. Here, we examines the demographics of stakeholders presenting public comments at the IACC with regards to question of accessibility, inclusiveness, and representation.
