Hello all you healthy people out there.For all of you who have read my earlier post in which I pointed out the benefits of strength training for ladies I would like to elaborate on that topic further and encourage all of you to take up weight training and make it a part of your workouts.The primary reason why women avoid doing weight training is out of the fear of developing bulging muscles.Now that is a total misconception.High levels of estrogen make it very difficult for women to become overly muscular.When women lift weights,the changes in their muscles are generally related to tone,strength and endurance rather than size.This results in firm feminine toning.In addition to that weight training is the single most effective way of losing fat.Cardio has got its own place and shouldnt be ignored but I in my opinion it should be a limited to a maximum of 30 minutes.In comparison a high intensity weight training session can burn upto 500 calories per hour.Not only this you continue to burn calories even after you have completed your workout as your muscle cells get worn and torn at microscopic level when you lift weights and hence need energy to repair themselves.Here I would like to point out one very important thing.When you work with weights you might not witness a drastic weight loss showing on the weighing scale.But here you should keep in mind that your focus should be on fat loss and not on weight loss.Working out with weights will result in loss of fat and gain of lean muscle.Muscle tissue is denser as compared to fat tissue having a density of 1.06gm/ml as compared to fat which has a density of 0.9 gm/ml.This means that fat occupies more space in a body and makes a person look expanded all over.That is why fat shows more in mirror than on a weighing scale.So a better and smarter way of keeping track of your progress is to stop weighing youself and start looking at yourself in the mirror.Working out with weights will give give you a more toned body and also improve your posture.A stronger back,shoulders,neck and core will help you stand up straight and look taller.Better posture also preserves the spine and reduces lower back pain.Strength training is not only good for your looks making you look beautiful and radiant while giving you a sculpted and toned body but also has got a host of other benefits like reducing your risk of heart disease,diabetes,increasing your bodys ability to deal with stress and enhancing cognitive functioning.I shall discuss the details of all these benefits in my next post.Hope this post of mine proved to be informative.Your feedback is most welcome.Till then enjoy your workouts,stay fit and healthy and live strong.
