Hello comrades. I, The Hitch, in my capacity as an editor of this page will be writing a weekly column on issues that have come to my attention. I hope to inspire debate. Today, I wish to discuss the potential of coal. In Britain we have discovered that 23 trillion tonnes of the substance is below the North Sea. There is enough to power Britain for centuries. Instead of shunning coal, its high time that it was put to good use. Britain could use it to create employment, balance our balance of payments and reduce energy dependency on the likes of Putins Russia. The environmental point is an important one as well which could be addressed by carbon capture methods. Instead of letting the emissions out into the atmosphere, they could be pumped straight into the old north sea oil fields underground. Thoughts? The Hitch #weeklycolumn
