Hello everybody, I am a 13 year post op mini bypass patient; - TopicsExpress

Hello everybody, I am a 13 year post op mini bypass patient; the surgery was done in North Carolina in February 2001. Friday night Sept 12, 2014 I was awakened by the most excruciating abdominal pain I’ve ever experienced…and I have had two episodes of kidney stones; so I know abdominal pain. This was different to some extent but I went to the ER and told them I thought it might be a kidney stone. The Dr. doing the assessment could tell I was wrong. A CT scan showed a perforation of the anastomosis at my stomach and small intestine. Emergency surgery closed it back up and I survived which I am told was not a sure thing. The surgeon who did the repair visited me and talked about a revision to a more conventional method. I asked him if he just stitched it back together or did he do anything to reinforce the anastomosis. He said he over sewed some intestinal tissue to help strengthen it. A day or two later I was home and emailed Dr. Rutledge about the incident. HE CALLED ME ON THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY!!!! What a great guy! He pointed out to me where I went wrong. I am posting this message to Dr. Rutledge so he can put it where it will do the most good; everybody needs to read and heed this. I lost 140 lbs in 7 months and hardly any of it came back. For a very long time I ate the menu prescribed in the manual that Dr. Rutledge provides and requires us to follow. For many years I didn’t even want the foods that made me fat but after a long while I was able to eat anything I had ever eaten and I was enjoying it……and not putting on any weight. Along the way I completely forgot about the manual. I was taking Baby Aspirin almost every night because I heard men over 60 should do so…………..NOT US! When the daily aches and pains acted up Aleve was my go to…..WRONG!! I never ate yogurt because of lactose intolerance; guess what…..there’s no lactose in yogurt!!!!!!!! And the benefits of yogurt may well have spared me this whole episode. All of this information is in the manual. Dr. Rutledges’ web site clos.net or https://sites.google/a/clos.net/mini/ have extremely informative articles on all of this. When we first went to Dr. Rutledge we signed on to a new life style. If it has been a while and you have lapsed into your old ways learn from my wakeup call, save yourself that pain and re-introduce yourself to the manual and these articles.
