I just listened to an interview on CNN with the nurse was quarantined in New Jersey after coming back from Africa. I think that her view u of our situation as a society is egocentric and narcissistic. I also think that it is literally sprinkled with a fair amount of arrogance. I dont think she really gets it. She made a choice, &, a noble one. However, inasmuch as we are seeing health care workers who have come back now and are developing overt signs of Ebola as part of our learning curve is taking the opportunity to learn from those health care workers for coming back from Africa. They represent probably the greatest risk as potential human vectors of the disease. I feel sorry for her. What government has is a responsibility to protect society. Future aid workers who decide to make the trip to West Africa need to take into account that their four week active participation will turn into a 7 week overall participation. And, that if that does not work for their going over, then, they shouldnt go. But, in truth it is incumbent upon societies in West Africa to upgrade their systems for medical care, and epidemiology, and population management. I just believe they have a responsibility to prevent a widespread tragedy, even at the expense of inconvenience for a small group of individuals. If I were to come in contact with a patient in the ER who has ebola, I would accept fact that that might very well mean that I was weak warranty but, as a Health Professional I have accepted the conveniences, status, respect, and reward of my profession. As such, I also accept the inconvenience of responsibility that goes along with it.
