Hello everyone! Erin at LEPS is looking for Water Sampling Technicians. This is a VOLUNTEER position beginning with a mandatory training session at the end of Feb. This will require a commitment to be available at lease 1 full day a month. If this is something you want to do, please get in touch with me or LEPS directly or I can give it to you directly. THIS IS VOLUNTEER and requires a serious COMMITMENT (at least 1 full day per month Feb thru July and possibly extending till the end of 2014) What a great learning experience and something awesome to add to your resume! Plus youre doing good work for the environment. Description: Volunteer Water Sampling Technician We are looking for reliable and dedicated volunteers to collect water quality data from Langley streams. This data will form baseline dataset to determine the health of Langley watersheds. Our volunteers are a very important part of this project; without them there would be no data collection. Contract required: 5 months (February to July 2014) and possibility of extending to end of 2014 Duties Involved: Interpreting sample site map; Sign-in/out of sampling equipment; Transportation of equipment to/from sample sites; Understanding of watershed dynamics; Collection of water sample from streamside locations; Use of water quality equipment and chemical reagents; Analysis and interpretation of water quality; Data collection of water quality results and site observations; and Understanding and implementing safety procedures. Skills/Qualifications Needed: Valid BC Drivers License for site access and pick-up/drop-off equipment; Volunteers must work in pairs and must be able to walk on uneven ground; Ability to keep sampling equipment clean and organized; Fieldwork knowledge; Teamwork skills; Attention to detail; Positive work ethic; and Determination. Training Provided: Mandatory training sessions and working interviews will be held in February 2014. Training will include proper and safe use of sampling equipment, general watershed issues, and result interpretation. Please remember: Volunteers must be respectful of the sampling equipment, keeping the kits clean and tidy after each use. Once the sampling schedules have been made please make sure to pick-up/drop-off equipment at your designated time. We only have one kit!
