Hello everyone, I had the pleasure of attending a Monroe Joint Fire District Commissioners meeting tonight. The commissioners were kind enough to let me speak during public comment about an item not on the agenda - the annexation. The commissioners allowed me to share my knowledge about annexation law and the over-all public interest. I read the section of the General Municipal Law that explains how over-all public interest includes impacts to special districts such as sewer, water, and fire. As a group, I believe we must be concerned about the financial impact the annexation would have on fire district taxpayers. And most important - the life safety issues for our residents and volunteer first responders. Remember, annexation law states that the change in municipal boundaries must not affect any special districts. This means that all water, sewer, school, and fire districts will remain intact should this action be approved. I look forward to sharing whatever information we have with the commissioners and the district counsel. A great bunch of people; we owe them many thanks. -John.
