Hello everyone... So the past few weeks Ive been busy. But I have found something that upsets me a bit. As a fire fighter I find it depressing that our local council is protesting against collecting the new rural fire levy. Council wrote in the local freebie paper:- (council name withheld) regional council has sent letters of protest to state MPs regarding the introduction of the Queensland Governments emergency management fire and rescue levy. Councils around Queensland will collect the new levy on rates notices of rural property owners for the first time in 2014 on behalf of the State Government. More than 9000 parcels of rural land in the (Council name withheld) Region are expected to be subject to the levy which is set at $45.10 for a house per rates notice and $11.40 for vacant land. Does this seem fair to you? We are volunteers. We dont get paid to drop what were doing to go to a fire to protect our locals -Renata
