Hello everyone! The song “Vitoriosa started to be composed on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo. A melody started coming up so I picked up a paper to write some notes that was pounding in my head. Next day at the sound check for a concert at Canecão Music Hall I took the piece of paper. Inspired by Caetano Veloso I put the picture of my wife Valeria in front of me and I continued to compose the rest of the melody. I asked my sound engineer, Gabriel Neto, to record the melody that was made. The next day, in another sound check, I started singing the melody. On this day, my son Claudio was with me. He came up to me and started singing an introduction, with his 12 year old boy’s voice (we were in 1984) and that was beautiful. I asked Gabriel to record a cassette tape. Next week I sent a copy of the tape to Vitor Martins and I said that it was made for Valeria then I asked him to write a lyric. The final recording was made in New York one year later with Dave Grusin’s arrangement and Claudio’s introduction was maintained with his voice. In 1986 the song was included in the soap opera “Roque Santeiro” and became a hit. And that’s it.
