Hello everyone, and thanks for adding me. A short history & some - TopicsExpress

Hello everyone, and thanks for adding me. A short history & some questions if you care to indulge me. I recently purchased a 2014 “T”, and will be taking delivery of it next week. After doing extensive research on bikes w/ sidecars, I seem to have settled on the Ural for pretty much the same reasons you all have. My specific reasoning was to get this bike is that I am a scuba diver, and want to use it to haul gear to the lake, run errands, joy ride & such. I will be moving to the Yucatan, in Mexico in 5 years, & I plan on taking the bike with me for many of the above reasons (except a beach instead of a lake). Dealer service will be a challenge, as there currently are no dealers down there that I know of. In addition, I may have some trouble getting a Russian bike into Mexico, as it’s not from a NAFTA approved country (I’ll figure something out). It also has to be 5 years old in order to import according to what I’ve read. Anyway, I was looking for a robust, self-serviceable rig. I know It’s a Ural, and It’s not maintenance free. I’m handy w/ a wrench, so I’m OK with that. In deciding which bike to get, the obvious decision was carb or EFI? 2014 improvements, or not? The EFI I thought would need less maintenance than carbs. Based on what I was able to find on the web over the last year, I found many people had issues w/ the older bikes, but I found absolutely NO complaints as to the EFI or new braking system until reading a lengthy thread on this page here from yesterday. It seems like most folks who own Urals have a love, or love/hate relationship w/ their bikes, newer or older. Similarly, you find good & bad reviews on just about any vehicle and if you believed all the negative reviews, you’d probably never buy any vehicle. So, I guess my question is, how bad is the new system really? The three year warranty will hopefully help w/ some of the bugs on the new configuration, but overall, how bad of a rig is it? Do you think it will work in the conditions I plan on using it for? Am I screwed because it has a computer? Did I choose poorly? Cheers!
