Hello everyone, as you all know Rusty attended the vets today and Im very sorry to tell you its not good news. After looking at his xrays we have been told that he has previously had surgery to which his hip was wired but done incorrectly and snapped resulting in Rusty dislocating the hip which has further led on to breaking the ball connecting into the socket. As this injury had been left Rusty has then put all of his weight on his right leg and hip which has then caused this hip to dislocate also. We have no idea how long he has been left with these injuries but as a result of the break and dislocations the sockets have now eroded and our handsome boy now needs a hip replacement which is not going to be cheap. Rusty is in that much pain with his hips that whilst he was being manoeuvred to be able to get the x-rays done he actually woke up even though he had been put under GA, so he had to have a top up dosage. His prostate has also been rescanned and this has shrunk but not by much it is now measuring 8.1cm x 6.2cm the vet felt as it has shrunk she wouldnt do the biopsy even though we did strongly recommend she should do so just to rule out any tumours or cancerous cells etc and she proceeded to neuter him (as we did also instruct her to do so whilst he was under GA). The vet is hoping that the neuter will shrink his prostate some more but this is not guaranteed. We now need the whole of the nation to help us to help this boy. His hip replacement is going to cost an estimated £5000 and as this is due to old injuries he came into rescue with the insurance policy will not cover it so we need to do everything in our power to raise these funds but the problem is we only have a maximum of 3 weeks to do this in. So please we beg of you as a nation of animal lovers please help this very special boy. Due to all of Rustys health problems and the not having the guarantee his prostate will shrink the rescue has decided that were going to get a blood test on Rusty this week just to rule out him having cancerous cells as we want to be able to give you the public his full medical conditions in case of anything at all as we as a team could not bare the thought of you guys donating for the hip replacement for him to also have cancer and you not know. Please share him far and wide as we dont have much time to get these funds together at all. He is now home in the care of his foster mum who is deeply upset after the news today and she will keep us fully updated every day as to how he is doing.
