Hello fellow Australian and American friends! I understand that many of you are contemplating visiting me in Rio for the FIFA 2014 World Cup, I will now explain with a heavy heart why I consider this is not a good idea. You see for many years, various Brazilian governments have resided over a propitious rapidly growing economy. Even though the Brazilian economy has grown significantly over time, unfortunately the Brazilian governments who have controlled these budgets have not passed on the good fortune directly to the Brazilian people. Instead of an obvious increase of national spending on essential services like health, education and security, the Brazilian government saw fit to spend over fifteen billion dollars on the cost of hosting the Confederations Cup and the World Cup. Recently the Brazilian people have simply had enough. So in their millions, they have started to take to the streets to take their country back from neglect, corruption and poor mismanagement of a future dormant empire. Even though the current Brazilian government will try and save face before the World Cup arrives and has already started passing many new laws go gain public sentiment back. It simply will not be enough to repair the damage done from decades of complete negligence. Even though millions of Brazilians have peacefully taken to the streets, a small minority have tried to turn peaceful protests into anarchy and disorder. The largest protests will be planned for during the World Cup when tens of millions of Brazilians from all over the country will take their grievances to the street, to take back their country. Understandably certain aspects of the Brazilian economy would prosper from tourist revenue from the World Cup. Be that as it may, it will only be a small drop in the ocean when you take into account and look at the big picture. Brazil is a magical country that is why I live there these days. I honestly hope one day many of my friends will come and visit me in my new life there. But I strongly advise you delay your trip until the FIFA World Cup has finished.
