Hello fellow bowfishermen... First off, thanks for taking the time to read what Ive typed up. This messages is going out individually to numerous individuals, groups, companies, organizations & associations, so I apologize in advance if it seems a bit generic. Im Geno Grausam. Im just a run-of-the-mill guy with a beautiful & talented wife and two beautiful kids...and I also love to kill fish! I recently retired from the Navy after serving 20 years. My wife served in the Navy for six years. After a 10 year break from being active duty, she received a commission from the U.S. Air Force as a Clinical Social Worker. Were fortunate enough to now be stationed at Scott AFB in Southern Illinois... I heard theres a silver carp problem in these parts... I was FORTUNATE enough to do 20 years without ever earning a Combat Action ribbon, but there are far too many men and women out there that earned it along with purple hearts. Im sending this message as a proposal to you, your team, your company and/or your bowfishing organization/association. Many of you may be familiar with Willett Rn on FaceBook... I believe that he goes by Shot. A while back, he proposed trying to put a shoot together for veterans. Being a vet, I loved the idea! Then I thought, how can I also continue to help serve vets even though Im retired. I love bowfishing and our countrys military and thought about how to tie the two together. And, at the same time, reach out to yall to offer the opportunity to indirectly help out if possible. As I mentioned, my wife is talented. One of her hobbies is quilting. A few years back, her mother had a quilt made out of a bunch of her favorite t-shirts and it looked awesome. (...bowfishing t-shirt quilt idea makes appearance in my head...) Having never shot in a tournament or even been to a boat landing with more than one other boat headed out to shoot fish, I decided to seek out some advice from some marketing experts... I sent an idea to Shot, Jeff Neiball of NDesigns and Mathew Schillinger of AMS to see what they thought... Here it is... My idea is to acquire and accumulate a variety of about 30+ different bowfishing t-shirts through donations for my wife(who has already agreed to do this, by the way) to create into a quilt. As she put it, it would be the ultimate bowfishermans man cave blanket. Once completed, this quilt would go up for auction on eBay for two weeks and all of the money made would go towards the *Wounded Warrior Project.* If any of you know someone who makes quilts, you know the amount of time and effort that go into making one of those things. However, my wife supports most of my ideas, especially when its for a worthy cause. Also, being a Social Worker, she sees quite a few folks with PTSD and loves to help them out in any way possible. Id also like to put out this disclaimer... I AM NOT some dude just trying to score a pile of free bowfishing t-shirts. I say that because that would be one of the first things Id think of if I received and read this message. What were looking for is a large variety of bowfishing t-shirts. Many colors, patterns, logos & quotes. New and/or new-used. A 20 t-shirt quilt would be four across and five down and would probably easily cover a full-sized bed. A 30 shirt quilt would be 5x6 and would probably easily cover a queen-sized bed. As much as we love the smell of a fresh-stuck carp rotting in the sun, Im sure we wouldnt wish upon anyone the stench of rotting silvers or grass carp gut mulch in someones man cave or bedroom, so the newer, the better. Basically, she/I would cut the shirt logos from the front and back and square them off. She then would have to sew a non-stretching material to the back of each square. The small logos from the front of the shirts would be used in the pattern to connect the corners of the big blocks. Im sure your imagination has enough to go on, so Ill cease from boring you with more quilting details. There goes that man card again... Jeff Neiball has already offered to send me some shirts. Matt Schillinger and Shot have also rogered up to help out wherever possible. If this is something that youd be interested in donating to, just let me know. Were hoping for a minimum of 20 different shirts, but more is bigger & better. By then end of it, Im sure Ill probably be force-learned to sew anyway, so making another quilt for a future event is completely doable. Once the quilt is completed, pictures of it would be advertised on BFZ, BFC and all over FaceBook with a link to eBay auction so it could get as much publicity as possible. Like I said, all of the money made from this will go to the *Wounded Warrior Project.* Again, if this is something that youd like to donate to, please let me know. Ive sent this via PM to numerous people, teams and companies on FaceBook. Im now posting on the pages of groups on FaceBook. If you or your team have already read this, please disregard. Thanks again. You can contact me on FaceBook by replying to this PM, email me a genograusam@yahoo or call my cell at 847-254-6478.
