Hello from Amigos de los Animales: We hope everyone had a nice - TopicsExpress

Hello from Amigos de los Animales: We hope everyone had a nice summer, and ready to enjoy all that Mazatlan has to offer. For those of us that were here during the summer months, we had a lot going on at the shelter; the main and most important thing is the new roof we had installed over the back area of the shelter, over the dog kennels. This was made possible by a very caring volunteer that created the “Hot Tin Roof Fund” and Cesar Millan. On behalf of all the people involved with Amigos, “THANK YOU”. It has made a huge improvement in their comfort, much cooler in the summer and it will be warmer in the winter. If you are out and about, please stop in and take a look at the new and improved shelter. Paint was donated by a local business, and the whole place is now being painted, and the doors to the office were refinished and are beautiful. The entire shelter is getting a much needed facelift. I would like to state, that the shelter has NEVER been closed and is open to the public as always. Our hours are Monday – Friday 11-2 and 4-7 and Saturday 11-2. The phones are only answered during operating hours. Sometimes, beyond our control, we may be very busy with a customer or customers, and can’t get to the phone right away, please either leave a message, and your call will be returned, or try again. I would also like to add, that at this time, our shelter is full and over capacity, adoptions have been low. We have MANY wonderful dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that are in need of forever homes. Please consider opening your heart and home to one of these loving animals….some have been with us, almost a year. We are a “no kill shelter”, so they now think of Amigos as their home…..but would love a real family, to call their own. Maybe you are here for only 6 months….please consider fostering one of these wonderful animals, to bring some joy and love into your life, while you are here. Who knows, you may find this fits right into your lifestyle and that dog or cat finds a forever home…..there are MANY ‘foster failures’, but that’s a good thing. We have been able to vaccinate all of the animals, almost as soon as they arrive at the shelter, thanks to another caring volunteer, that put in place “The Pixie Project” and now we can say that the shelter now has hardly any sick or ill animals, unless they come in, that way. Thank you again; to the caring people that have made it possible for us to improve the lives of these animals that find their way to Amigos…..without you, it would not be possible. For those that followed the “Blanca Story”, the Dalmatian that was brought to us, she was starving, chained, ears chewed raw from flies and bleeding, covered with fleas and ticks and litterly on death’s bed…..Blanca now weighs 50 lbs, or 23 kilos, is beautiful and this week began chemo for STD. As soon as she has recovered from this, she will be spayed and ready for her new home….she is a loving wonderful girl, who deserves all the love a human can give her. Volunteers are always needed…..there are many things that can be done, and if you feel you can help, please do not hesitate to contact the shelter. Dog walking…..they all love it and that is the highlight of their day. This is what helps socialize the dog, teaches them manners, and makes it easier for them to find a forever home. Dog bathing, nail trims…..socialize with the cats and kittens. Maybe assist the vet on “well check” days, (retired vet techs, or nurses) or volunteer in the bazaar one day a week. If you are a handy man, there is always ‘something that needs fixing. Volunteers are what make the shelter work. Our Bazaar is located on top of the shelter; we accept all donations, clothing, furniture, appliances, just about any and everything. All proceeds go directly to the shelter to take care of the animals. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter or the Bazaar, or can be picked up, but calling the shelter at 986 42 35. The Bazaar hours are 11-2, Monday –Saturday. And last, but not least, please mark on the calendar, the Annual Champagne Brunch will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014. In the next week or 2, we will provide you with more details, and where and when, tickets can be purchased. Please remember, the proceeds from this event are our main source of monies to keep Amigos open to help street animals find a better life. Amigos de los Animales is located at Bicentenario Juarez #3, in Col Francisco Villa. Look for the dog and cat painted on the building… Again, thank you for supporting Amigos de los Animals and all that you do, to help these wonderful 4 legged friends.
